HypnoBirthing Does it Again
Leisha and Travis took HypnoBirthing with me when they were expecting their first child and had a fantastic birth! We then did a refresher class in preparation for her second and her birth story is incredible. I love that she was able to have a positive induction. Also, the beauty of having given birth before helps us prepare for our next one and she was able to bring in elements of her own that she was able to implement with her HypnoBirthing tools. My favorite aspect is how she tuned into her body and told them she was not ready to push and did it in her own time. Check out her story!
“We had a calm, fear free labor and delivery, and I have a positive induction birth story!
I went in for my scheduled induction on Friday morning. By lunch time I was 5cm and they broke my waters at 1:50. I asked immediately to go into the tub. I labored there while watching a show on the iPad. By the time the show was over I was in a place where I really needed to focus on breathing through the contractions.
We took a slightly unconventional approach and played the Hamilton Soundtrack, which was the exact sort of energy I needed. (Travis has some great videos of me rapping along between contractions!) I enjoyed the music, but when the contractions would hit I would focus on his heartbeat coming out of the fetal monitor.
Once I progressed to 8cm I utilized a hair comb in my hand. I didn’t squeeze it in my hand like I had seen on IG labor videos, but rather, would run my thumb along the teeth of the comb to desensitize. During the transition phase I focused on the low moaning/humming sound while actually releasing the comb in my hand as a reminder not to clench, but to let my body be free and open and surrender to the contraction.
While in the tub my midwife said, “we should be recording this for a manual on how to power through an unmedicated birth!” My biggest takeaways from your class was how to tune in with my body, trust the process and release fears. I really felt in complete control and totally fear free the whole time I was laboring, and have your class to thank!
I knew I wanted to stay in the tub until the last possible minute. They came by and said I should get out and I said give me ten more minutes. I was still in transition and not experiencing the breaks in contractions that you feel when it's time to push. They took the cue and turned down my Pitocin. In 10 minutes, sure enough I felt the urge. I had one standing contraction while they dried me off and then in 3 contractions in a side lying position, our baby was born at 4:50pm. The team did a great job of giving me cues to help me bear down correctly and minimize tearing. Travis was an incredible support partner who advocated for everything I needed. We were able to have the labor and birth I was manifesting!”
