Induction Massage
Does an induction massage really work? Yes and No.
Like all other means of natural induction, if your body and baby aren’t ready, then it will not work.
However, if your body is on the cusp of labor it could send it over the edge and get things going!
I do not do this massage before 39 weeks for two reasons. Reason one is I don’t want to stir anything up before your body is ready. And two because it would simply give false hope. Especially if you are a first time mom, going past 40 weeks is very likely! (If you are being induced for medical reasons, I will make individual exceptions if care provider has approved)
So instead of induction massage think of it as stimulation massage. We will stimulate specific pressure points and see if it helps your body go into labor.
The massage effects can come into play for up to 72 hours, so continue to do other means of induction.
With my 4th baby, I got off the massage table and my water released and I had him 7 hours later!
Regardless, if it sends you into labor that day or not, everything we are doing is prepping your body for labor day, so it can only help!
I also spend a lot of extra time on the hips. First off, it feels amazing! Also, if we can get your pelvis loosened up, the baby can really drop lower and get into ideal position.
Worst case scenario, you just got an awesome massage and potentially a good nights sleep that evening!
